History for Inspector Access (history as of 2/4/2011 10:02:06 AM)

You can reduce the paperwork associated with mooring inspections by using Online Mooring to enter inspection results electronically.

Overview

The provider (harbor manager) decides how often moorings need to be inspected, who is authorized to inspect the moorings, and what information needs to be recorded during each inspection.

The provider or applicants specify which inspector in responsible for inspecting each mooring.

The provider gives access rights to each inspector so that they can update their moorings.

The inspector enters the inspection results.

The inspection results are in the database and are searchable and visible to appropriate parties.  The database calculates an inspection status ("Inspection is Current" or "Inspection is Needed") based on the last inspection date entered into the database.

Authorizing an Inspector

The inspector needs to create a login account if they don't have one already.  They do this by going to the provider's Online Mooring home page and filling out the "Create a New Login" section of the page.

The inspector provides their login ID to the provider.

The provider gives the inspector rights to update the inspection information on "their" moorings.  They do this by going to the Users page.  If the inspector's login ID is already listed, they can click on the Edit button.  If the login ID doesn't appear in the list, they can click the Add button, and then type the login ID and click the Search button.  Once on the User page, select the "Inspector" role, AND (this is important) select which Inspector they are, then click Save.  If you don't select which Inspector they are, they will be able to update inspections on ALL moorings.

Entering an Inspection

After logging in to the provider's Online Mooring site, you will see a search box in the top right corner of every page.  You can search for an applicant's name, a vessel name, or a mooring number.  If there are multiple matches, you can select one by clicking on it.  Then, on the Application Summary page, you will see all of the information associated with the application, including any existing inspection results.  To enter the results of the latest inspection, click the "Edit" button next to the inspection, then enter the new information, and then click "Save and Continue".
