History for Updating Berth Locations in Bulk (history as of 5/10/2016 11:58:27 AM)

If you'd like to update the locations of your berths in bulk, please feel free to use one of the following techniques:

Using Exact Coordinates

You can import a file containing GPS coordinates for your berths.  The file you import needs to:
- Be in CSV (Comma Separated Value) format.  Most GPS devices have a way to create a CSV file.  If they don't, and there is a way to export the data to Excel, you can use Excel to "Save As" a CSV file.
- Have at least three columns:  one column that represents the mooring number, one column that represents the latitude, and one column that represents the longitude.
- Have the latitude and longitude represented in one of the following formats:
1)  Decimal Degrees Format - a single number
2)  Decimal Minutes Format - which is the degrees followed by a space followed by the number of minutes
3)  Degrees Minutes Seconds Format - which is the degrees followed by a space followed by the number of minutes followed by a space followed by the number of seconds

If you haven't already given us instructions for importing your file, you'll need to create an Import Specification:
- Choose the Configuration > Import/Export option
- Click the Add button on the Import/Export Specifications page.
- On the Specification page, enter the required fields:
1) The name of this spec, such as "Coordinates"
2) The spec type, which will be "Berths"
3) Check the "For Import" option.
4) Should this file contain new berths only, existing berths only, or both?  If it will contain new berths, check the "Allow Inserts" check box.  If it will contain existing berths, check the "Allow Updates" check box.
5) How do you want to handle errors?  If you want to import nothing if there is an error, uncheck the Continue on Error and Keep Data on Error options.  If you want to import whatever can be imported successfully, check both those boxes.
Click Save.

Then you'll see a section at the bottom of the page called "Fields".  This allows you to define how the fields in your file will be mapped to fields in our database.
1)  Choose the option "Add multiple fields from CSV"
2)  Upload the CSV file and click the "+" sign
3)  If all goes well, we will match the fields in your CSV file to the fields in our database.  You can check by looking at the list of fields in your CSV, and you should see a database field listed next to each of them.  If the database field is blank, it means we couldn't figure things out automatically, and you'll need to go in and update that mapping manually.

Once you have the import specification in place, you can import the coordinate data by:
- Choosing the Data > Import option
- Choosing the "Coordinate" import spec (or whatever name you used when you created the spec)
- Uploading the CSV file containing the coordinate data
- Clicking the Import button.

Using Approximate Coordinates

If you don't have exact GPS coordinates, you can hand place berths on the chart by hand.  To do that:
- Go to the Chart page
- Go to the Options tab and select the Display mode field to "Update Coordinates Mode", and click the Update button.
- To set the location of a berth:
1)  Click on the chart where you want to put the berth
2)  If this is an existing berth, go just below the chart to where it says "Existing Berth" and pick the Berth from the list, then click the Set Coordinate option.
3)  If this is a new berth, go just below the chart to where it says New Berth.  Type the berth number and click the Set Coordinate option.

You can those last three steps to sett the location of the next berth.

The new or updated berth will not show up on the page until you refresh the page.

Using Calculated Coordinates

If you'd like us to calculate the locations of the berths based on some criteria that you define, please feel free to contact us to do that on your behalf.  Additional fees may apply.
