History for Selling Items (history as of 3/11/2026 6:29:08 PM)

Online Mooring provides powerful capabilities to allow you to sell items to boaters, and to have them pay electronically.

Specify what you sell

Using the configuration screens in Online Mooring, you can maintain a listing of products that you sell, how you sell them, and what you charge for them.  Since rates for items can change over time, you can enter rate changes for each item and the date when the rate change is effective.

You can configure different methods for calculating the quantity sold.  The most common method is for you to hand-enter a quantity when selling an item.  But, we also handle calculating the quantity based on meter readings (for utilities like electricity, gas, water, etc.).  There are two types of meters:  a single meter (like a gas pump at a gas dock), or multiple meters (like an electrical meter at each slip).

Record what someone buys/uses

You can record items sold to a boater several different ways:

1)  Bulk Meter Readings

If you, for example, had docks with an electrical meter at each slip, this method would be useful.  We have a meter reading dashboard where you can walk the docks and record  the current meter reading at each slip.  Once you save your information, we'll calculate the quantity consumed by the boater, calculate the charges to each, and attach that charge to the records you have for each of the boaters that are currently assigned to those slips.

2)  Individual Meter Readings

If you, for example, had a shared gas pump at a gas dock, this method would be useful.  Here, you would choose one of the boaters in your records (or enter information about a new boater if they don't yet exist in your records), and enter that you are selling gas and enter the meter reading when done fueling.

3)  Point of Sale purchases

If you, for example, were selling bags of ice, this method would be useful.  Similar to above, you would choose one of the boaters in your records, and enter that you are selling bags of ice (from a drop-down list of items) and enter the quantity.

Receive Payment

You have several options for boaters to pay for these items:

1) Accept Immediate payment

If you accept cash, you can record the cash payment in Online Mooring.  If people want to pay by card, you can click the Pay button and they'll be able to enter their payment info online.

2) Request payment

If someone is not physically present when you provide the product to the boater (such as when providing something metered like electricity), we can send out e-mails/texts to the boater immediately with a request for payment.  We can send out reminders if the balance remains unpaid for a period of time.  We can assess penalties if the amount is unpaid for a period of time.

3) Put it on their tab

The charges will appear on the boaters bill, and they'll need to pay all outstanding balances in order to extend their stay.
