There is a way for mooring inspectors to import their inspection results to Online Mooring in bulk, by entering their data into a spreadsheet and importing the spreadsheet into Online Mooring.
This feature can be enabled by the Harbor, by creating an Import/Export specification called "Inspection" that defines which data fields are on the inspection form. The harbor should print the definition of the Inspection Import/Export specification and send it to the inspector with the instructions below.
Once this feature is enabled, the mooring inspector can take the following steps:
Step 1
Create a spreadsheet that is formatted according to the specifications provided by the Harbor.
The easiest way to do this would be do an export of their data out of Online Mooring. This can be done by:
- Getting a list of all of their moorings, by selecting Data > Berths from the menu.
- Exporting the data in this format, by clicking the Export button at the bottom of the search results page, choosing the "Inspection" specification, and clicking Export.
Step 2
Make changes to the data in the spreadsheet as needed (leaving the columns exactly as is)
Step 3
Import the data, by going to Data > Import, choosing the "Inspection" specification, entering the filename containing your data, and clicking the Import button.
Please note that the file being imported needs to be in CSV format, not an XLS or XLSX format. If you have a file in XLS/XLSX format, you'll first need to go into Excel and do a "Save As" and choose the file type of "CSV UTF-8".
Step 4
Review and correct any errors that appear.
The import does a lot of error checking to make sure that everything can load. If there are any problems, the import will stop importing data from your spreadsheet.
Common problems include:
- Specifying a value that doesn't match any of the drop-down list values that are shown in our online data entry forms
- Entering an invalid length value. For length columns you can specify a number of feet, a number of inches, or both separated by a space. Examples of valid entries: 29, 6", 29' 6"
- Entering an invalid coordinate. For coordinate columns you can specify a number of degrees, a number of minutes, and a number of seconds, all separated by spaces. Examples of valid entries are: 41.5, 41 30.000, 41 30 0.00, 41° 30.000', 41° 30' 0.00", N41° 30' 0.00"
- Entering an invalid date. Dates should be in mm/dd/yyyy format.
If you encounter errors, you'll need to correct the errors in the file that you are trying to import, and start the process over at step 3.
