Step #1 - Make sure there is an application for the person/vessel to be assigned
If there is no application (with the correct application type) that lists the person and/or vessel that you want to assign to the berth, you'll need to create one.
Option #1) Have the applicant fill out an application online
Option #2) You can enter an application on behalf of the applicant as follows:
- Go to the Dashboard
- Click on the "Add" button next to the correct application type.
- On the Applicant* tab, fill out information. If this is a new applicant, click the Add button, enter the info, and Save. If this is an existing applicant, click the Link button, choose the option to Link to an existing applicant, then search for the applicant by name, and then on the search results page click the link button next to the applicant you want to appear on the application.
- On the Vessel tab, fill out information. If this is a new vessel, click the Add button, enter the info, and Save. If this is an existing vessel, click the Link button, choose the option to Link to an existing vessel, then search for the vessel you want, and then on the search results page click the link button next to the vessel you want to appear on the application.
Step #2 - Make sure the berth is listed
If this is a new physical berth, you'll need to add the berth into Online Mooring. You can do that a couple of ways:
- On the application that you want to assign, go to the Berth* tab. If there is an Add button, click it, then enter info about the berth and click Save. If there is no Add button, you can make it appear by clicking the Link button and then click the "Link to Nothing" option.
- Using the navigation menu, go to Data > Berths* , then click the Add button, enter information about the berth and click Save.
Step #3 - Make sure that the berth is available for assignment
Each berth has limits on how it can be used. The most common limit is that one person/boat can be assigned to a berth at a time (see the Berth Usage Limits help page for other possibilities). If anyone else is assigned to the berth for any part of the time period, you will most likely be prevented from assigning a second person/vessel to the berth at the same time. Your options are:
- Change the time period when you want to assign this person/vessel to the berth, so that it doesn't conflict with anyone else's assignment
- Change when the other person(s) is/are assigned to the berth. If the other person should no longer have access to the berth, or any other berth, you can add a "Canceled" action to the application, and that will "unassign" the person from the berth from that date forward. If the other person should be re-assigned to another berth you can follow the instructions on this help page for them first.
Step #4 - Link the application to the berth
On the application, on the Berth* tab, click the Link button, and choose the option to "Link to an existing Berth*".
If this application is already assigned to another berth right now, or at some point in the future, you will be prompted to enter a date when you want this person to start their assignment at the new berth.
You will then go to a Search page where you can specify what berth you are looking for, and then click Search. On the search results page, click the Link button next to the berth you want.
If you were prompted for a start date for the new assignment, we will automatically stop the previous assignment on that date, and approve this application to be at the new berth from that date until the previous expiration date.
Step #5 - Approve the assignment
If you weren't prompted for a date during the previous step, then you'll need to take one last step to actually assign the berth.
Option #1) Approve the application. In particular, this means adding an Application Approved action (if this is a first time assignment for this application) or a Renewal Approved action (if this is not a first-time assignment)
Option #2) Temporarily assign the person to the berth by adding a "Temporary Assignment" action.
