Date/Time Formats

Date

The way of displaying dates can vary from country to country.  In the USA, the format is dd/mm/yyyy, while most other English-speaking countries display dates in mm/dd/yyyy format.  But some harbors are close to an international border, and may want to display dates in the format of the adjacent country.  As a result, there is a configuration setting on the Settings page that allows the harbor to control how dates will be displayed.

When entering dates, the easiest thing is to pick the date from a calendar, and the date will be entered in the correct format.  But you can hand-enter the date as long as you follow the standard way that dates are handled for your harbor.

Time

A time can be entered in one of two ways:

hh:mm:ss am/pm format.  This is standard AM/PM time.  The minutes, seconds, and am/pm are optional.  If you leave the minutes off, we assume zero minutes.  If you leave seconds off, we assume zero seconds.  If you leave the am/pm indicator off, we assume AM.  So this allows you to enter times as follows:
1 am = 1 AM
1 AM = 1 AM
1:05 = 1:05 AM
1:05 pm = 1:05 PM
1:05:14 am = 1:05:14 am
1:05:14 pm = 1:05:14 pm

hhmmss (24-hour format).  This is US military format.  The seconds are optional, and are assumed to be zero if missing.  The minutes are also optional, and are assumed to be zero if missing.  So this allows for entering times as follows:
01 = 1 AM
13 = 1 PM
0100 = 1AM
0101 = 1:01 AM
1301 = 1:01 PM
130100 = 1:01 PM
130115 = 1:01:15 PM

If you enter the time in hhmmss format, please note that we will display the time you entered in the equivalent hh:mm:ss am/pm format.
