Data Entry Field

Overview

This page allows you to control the behavior of how a particular data entry field will work within your site.

Fields

Field Label - Please specify how you would like this field to be labeled whenever it appears, if you would prefer not to use the standard labels provided.

Required - Please check this box if you want to require the entry of this field on data entry screens.  If you check this box, users will be unable to save the entire record until this field has been filled in.  You should specify here whether the field should be required FOR THE PERMIT ISSUER.  You can override whether this will be required for applicants or inspectors in certain situations.

Visible - Please check this box if you want this field to be shown on the data entry screen.  If you uncheck this box, the field will not appear at all on the data entry screen.

Visible on Search Page - Please check this box if you want this field to be shown on search screens.  If you uncheck this box, the field will not appear.  Please note that some fields are never shown on the search screens, regardless of whether you check this box.

Help Override - If you would like to supply your own help text for this field, it will be displayed in place of the default help provided by the product.

Situations - If you want this field to appear or behave differently for the applicant or inspector in various situations, you can configure that appearance and behavior in this section.  This section lists all combinations of permit types and situations where you can override how the field will appear.

Permit Type - This specifies the permit type that these settings apply to.

Behavior

Wait List Application - This situation controls how the field will appear to applicants during their initial application process.

Wait List Renewal - This situation controls how the field will appear to applicants during any wait list renewal application process that they perform.

Permit Issuance - This situation controls how the field will appear to applicants during any permit issuance application process that they perform.

Permit Renewal  - This situation controls how the field will appear to applicants during any permit renewal application process that they perform.

Other Public Access - This situation controls how the field will appear to applicants at any other time not specified above.

Inspection - This situation controls how the field will appear to inspectors when they enter their inspection data.

Behavior - This shows how you've restricted or enhanced access to the field for this permit type and situation.

Required - This shows how you've restricted or enhanced the required setting for this field, for this permit type and situation.

Effective Visibility - Based on the settings for the field in general, and the settings for this situation, will this field be shown?

Effective Editability - Based on the settings for the field, and the settings for this situation, will the field be updateable?

Effective Required - Based on the settings for the field, and the settings for the situation, will the field be required?
